Zimbabwe Mission Dinner - A Future with
Hope
San Antonio Zoo
November 7, 2009
We are asking for your help to fund a modest public water system in the Zimbabwean village of Muziti, beginning with a water well.
Fundraising dinner November 7. It is because of the dire health conditions, along with countless other conditions which threaten the health and education of Zimbabwe’s citizens, that San Antonio’s Trinity United Methodist and University United Methodist churches are sponsoring this inspiring event.
Featured dinner speaker is Zimbabwean Methodist Bishop A. T. Muzorewa. who will bring updates on the country's health, hunger, education, children’s welfare, and political dynamics.
Bishop Muzorewa, now retired, lives in Muziti and devotes his life to banishing poverty in Zimbabwe and other African countries. He was honored by the United Nations in 1973 as a Human Rights Leader for the non-violent struggle for justice and freedom for the people of Zimbabwe. Pope John Paul II later honored Bishop Muzorewa with a Medal of Peace for his role in the fight for justice and peace in Zimbabwe and the African continent as a whole.
Zimbabwean Situation. As recently as May, 2009, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies issued an update on conditions in Zimbabwe, particularly relating to the cholera epidemic. “Central to this outbreak,” the report noted, “remains the almost complete collapse of Zimbabwe’s basic water, sanitation and health infrastructure."

Dear VIM Leaders and Friends of Mission ,
“Hear’s” a mission opportunity for you to prayer for and maybe pay for …
How much do you appreciate being able to hear the music in church on a Sunday morning? How about the songs of birds in the spring or the voice of someone you care for? Do you have a loved one who is hearing impaired? Would you donate $200 to keep a hearing impaired child in school in Zimbabwe for a year? Is your church being called to raise $6000 to cover the cost of the whole class of 30 hearing impaired children?
Through the Home of Hope Outreach program, The Nyadire Connection enables hundreds of orphans and vulnerable children of the Nyadire region in Zimbabwe to remain in school by providing fees, a backpack of school supplies, and establishing a personal connection with each child. Especially vulnerable in the fragile environment of Zimbabwe are hearing impaired children. At the Nyadire United Methodist Mission primary school, Teachers Mwoyosyi Tapfuma and Desmond Dzemwa have 30 hard of hearing or deaf children in grades 2 – 7. These children from homes in the Mutoko/Murewa/Mudzi region come to Nyadire, live in dorms, eat in the dining room, attend church, and play sports every day. Using sign language, they are taught English, Math, Environmental Science, Social Studies, Religious and Moral education, Home Economics, and AIDS education.
The Nyadire Connection is searching for a Church or Organization to sponsor this ongoing program. The yearly fee for each child is $200. The total program cost for the 30 children is $6000/year. Financial support is critical, but equally important is the opportunity to connect and share with these enthusiastic learners who now live in one of the world’s most troubled spots. View a picture of one of these children signing his name: http://www.wpaumc.org/pages/detail/1530 .
To donate, or volunteer your services to connect with and help raise the money to educate these children, contact Elsa Zollars at elsazz@verizon.net or 412 835-1408.
